SUMMARY:You Have Been Summoned: A Jury Service Experience
DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered what it would be like to sit on a jury? Weigh evidence\, deliberate with others and explore how verdicts are reached. \n\n\n\nStep inside a historic courtroom in Greater Manchester Police Museum and take part in a simulated jury experience exploring a fictional criminal case. Discuss the evidence and discover the responsibilities and challenges involved in helping to deliver justice. \n\n\n\nAs the case unfolds\, you’ll confront questions at the heart of jury decision-making. How do jurors interpret evidence? What can influence the way people judge witness testimony? How do groups reach decisions when there is disagreement? And why do so many people find jury service very different from what they expected? \n\n\n\nManchester Met researchers will share insights into how social science research can help us better understand one of society’s most important civic responsibilities. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re fascinated by psychology\, crime and criminal justice\, enjoy courtroom dramas\, or want to understand what would happen if you were called for jury service\, this event offers a rare opportunity to experience the realities of jury duty for yourself. \n\n\n\nThis FREE event organised by Manchester Metropolitan University is part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2026\, the UK’s largest celebration of social sciences research. \n\n\n\nExplore the full programme: Festival of Social Science
